Petition
By completing the petition below, I confirm that I am:
Welcoming the strong condemnations by Tanzania's President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of the killings of people with albinism in his country and his promise of concentrated efforts to put an end to these crimes against humanity.
Congratulating President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on his important decision to nominate Ms. Al-Shaymaa Kwegyir as the first albino Member of Parliament, signifying the government’s alarm regarding these horrific crimes.
Recognizing and supporting the government’s actions in arresting 173 suspects connected with the killing of albinos in Tanzania, and hereby asking that those being detained:a. be tried in a court of law, and thatb. those found guilty of these macabre crimes be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Asking that the Government of Tanzania provides resources to the albinism community in terms of public education and protection, with the goal to reduce the crippling discrimination albinos experience in their schools and communities.
Declaring my solidarity with and support for persons with albinism living in Tanzania during this time of dire crisis.
Reminding persons within the Tanzanian albinism community that they are NOT ALONE and that many throughout the world are standing with them in defense of their fundamental human right to safety, security and freedom.
